As a Catholic School we value the unique talents that each and everyone brings to our school community. All are valued as God’s children and we work towards every young person achieving their full potential.

In April 2011 the Government introduced the Pupil Premium. This additional funding was allocated to schools to spend on children (from Reception to Year 11). The Government believes that the Pupil Premium is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities to ensure that funding to tackle the disadvantaged reaches the students that need it most.

The following groups of students and young people are eligible:

• Children and young people from low income families who are known to be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and those who have been in receipt of Free School Meals at any time over the previous six years in both mainstream and non-mainstream settings.
• Children and young people who are in Local Authority Care, from the first day of the care episode.
• Children and young people who have left care under a Residential Care order on or after 14/10/1991 as are those who have left care under a Special Guardianship Order on or after 30/12/2005 (under The Children Act 1989).
• Children and young people who were adopted from care on or after 30/12/2005 (under The Adoption abd Children Act 2002).

Many of the strategies that have been used have been researched by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) who calculated the number of months of progress that could be gained. This is shown where appropriate. At JFK our Achievement Teams closely monitor and track the progress of Pupil Premium students. The expenditure and the impact it has is also monitored and tracked so we can be sure our interventions help each individual.

We have invested in training for all teaching staff to ensure they are up to date on the latest findings on the impact of the increased use of feedback in the classroom. (EEF gain on +8 months). Our Pupil Premium students benefit from the revision sessions and revision days which are run by teaching staff during both term time and during holidays to prepare these students for their exams. We also have workshops on Study Skills delivered by an external provider. (EEF gain + 1 month).

JFK employs a Life Coach and School Counsellor who help boost self-esteem and help students develop a “can do” attitude as well as supporting their mental health and wellbeing. (EEF gain 5+ months). We have provided equipment and subsidised curriculum visits to ensure Pupil Premium students do not miss out on these important aspects of their education.
